Osprey is a well-established outdoor gear brand. Since the company launched in 1974, every product has passed through the hands of founder Mike Pfotenhauer, who maintains high standards in regards to the company values of innovation, integrity, quality, respect and stewardship. In alignment with this philosophy, the newest releases are made using recycled plastic water bottles for a sustainable approach. Each of these new additions is also guaranteed, like every product at Osprey, with the company vow to “repair any damage or defect for any reason free of charge-whether it was purchased in 1974 or yesterday.”

The most recent additions include the new Arcane Waist, Arcane Zip Pouches and Arcane XL Pack. Each item is made from 100% recycled polyester fabric. The fabric goes through a process that turns it from plastic into a strong fabric for everyday use. The company estimates it lowers its carbon footprint by 45-50% by relying on recycled materials.

The fabric is bluesign®-approved recycled polyester made from recycled plastic bottles that feature PFC-free DWR. All materials are audited by a third-party lab for verification. Osprey reports, “Recycling diverts material away from the waste stream by keeping it out of landfills and oceans, and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators. It lowers dependence on petroleum as a source for raw materials, promotes recycling streams and uses less energy than virgin counterparts, resulting in lower emissions. Products produced from recycled polyester have the potential to be continuously recycled, promoting a closed-loop system.”

The Arcane XL Day is larger than other day packs in the lineup with a large J-zip front panel and a padded space to bring a laptop along. The material sheds moisture and the harness is designed for breathability while on the trail. The Arcane XL Day is made from 26 plastic bottles.

The Arcane Waist offers a zippered main compartment with internal pockets for organization. Keep your hands free while wearing the bag around your waist or sling it over your shoulder. Four water bottles are used in production.
