Welcome to TFB Weekly Amazon Deals 11. This week we’re going to focus on products found on Amazon that can be used to upgrade or maintain your pistols. A lot of the stuff featured in Sam S’s Armorer’s Bench series can be found on Amazon and with the limited supplies found on store shelves these days, there might be a good opportunity for you guys to restock or add to your home gun maintenance supplies. If you’re looking to get started with firearm maintenance then you should hop on over to Sam’s first article TFB Armorer’s Bench: 10 Essential Home Armorer/Gunsmith Tools. Sam also has a great article on gun bench liquids and many of those can also be found on Amazon. So let’s get started with our items for this week!
TFB Weekly Amazon Deals 11: Pistol Upgrade and Maintenance Edition
Break Free CLP is my go-to CLP liquid. I use it as a general-purpose cleaner and lubricant and down here in the humid south, the stuff really works overtime attempting to keep all my guns rust-free. Break Free offers their CLP products in both spray bottles and aerosol cans but I tend to like using the trigger sprayers since they allow me to have more precise control over how much spray is coming out at once. Break Free CLP is currently on sale for a couple bucks off for either a single bottle or a two-pack so if you’re running low now might be a good time to pick some up for your bench. ($23.43 – 1 Pack, $42.99 – 2 Pack)
Torque wrenches are an essential tool for both long-range and pistol shooters. With the increasing popularity of pistol-mounted red dots, it pays to have a quality torque wrench so that you’re getting the proper tightness on your red dot optic hardware when it’s being installed. The Wheeler torque wrench has an accuracy of plus or minus two inch-pounds, is easy to read and includes flat head, hex, and Torx bits for a variety of fastening hardware. The Wheeler Manual Firearms Accurizing Torque Wrench is currently on sale for $44.93 (normal price $59.99).
Trigger scales are great for those of you who use adjustable triggers or stone/hone your own triggers at home. I personally own one of these Lyman trigger pull scales and I wish they had been on sale when I bought mine. Right now this particular scale/gauge is only $49.99 which is nearly $20 off of its normal list price. The scale displays each individual trigger pull weight and can average several trigger pulls in a row to get you an aggregate so you can dial in your trigger to your exact specifications.
Bench blocks are very useful for disassembling and reassembling your pistol. For the longest time I had been getting away with using an old roll of duct tape but the bench block has specific-sized holes and channels built-in for dropping small pins through it and keeping round parts stabilized while you work on the pistol. Right now the Real Avid Smart Bench Block is on sale for $11.19 (normally $15.00 on other sites). This bench block is also non-marking meaning that unlike me, you won’t be getting any sticky duct tape glue all over your handgun.
The bench vise is a massive tool upgrade for any amateur’s gunsmithing bench. When working on pistols, a bench vise can be useful for drifting new sets of sights in and out and can also be a good way to hold the pistol frame in place while reinserting core components like trigger groups. This Walton 5-1/2-Inch heavy-duty vise has 360 degrees of travel and features three sets of jaws (although I would highly suggest getting a decent pair of soft vise jaws so you don’t mar up your pistol’s finish). The vise is currently on sale for $182.42 (normal list price $198.29) and it is one of the better bench vises you can buy as far as foreign-made ones go. (American-made vise’s cost north of $500).
Various Pistol Reference Books
Aside from taking a certified armorers course from the manufacturer, reference books, as Sam said in his article, are a great way to stay informed about the internals of your firearm and will help you out a lot if you’re unfamiliar with a new gun. Below I’ve listed out a few pistol reference books that are currently on sale.
Gunsmithing Pistols & Revolvers – $41.09 (Kindle Version is much Cheaper and won’t wear out over time!) – $16.99
Gunsmithing Modern Firearms: A Gun Guy’s Guide to Making Good Guns Even Better – Hardcover $13.79 (Normal Price $24.99)
Hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s Amazon Deals. If you’ve seen any deals on the site recently that you think others could benefit from, feel free to drop a tip down below. Thanks as always for reading TFB and happy gunsmithing to you all!
