Welcome everyone to the TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. In this article sponsored by Wheeler, Tipton, Caldwell, and Frankford Arsenal, I decided to take a closer look at the Delta Series Compact Multi-Tool that Wheeler Engineering currently offers. Wheeler is one of a few companies out there that offer affordable examples of gunsmith technology. One example is their large catalog of AR15 related tools. Let’s jump into the Wheeler Delta Series Compact Multi-Tool!

TFB Armorer’s Bench: Closer Look – Delta Series Compact Multi-Tool

Welcome to our recurring series of Armorer’s Bench which is made possible and brought to you by Wheeler, Tipton, Caldwell, and Frankford Arsenal who are our sponsors. Here, we at TFB hope to inform, entertain, and even inspire any would-be gunsmith or armorer out there. Ideally, with the information I provide and with the help of our sponsors, you can have some useful knowledge pertaining to the conservation and improvement of firearms technology while at the same time sharing experiences and teaching each other new tips and tricks along the way in the comments. Digging deep into what it is to be an armorer or gunsmith has significance but what is important is what those people do to show they’ve earned that title. I am happy to share my experiences and knowledge and hope it is informative!

Make your personal safety a priority:

  1. Practice proper gun safety. Always make sure before the firearm hits your bench that it is unloaded and safe to be handled.
  2. Wear the proper safety equipment. The main one would be safety glasses (decent ones) since parts are often under spring tension and you may work with high RPM tools. Other honorable mentions would be latex gloves or a respirator when working with potentially harmful solvents and oils. Also hearing protection when working with loud machinery or test-firing firearms.
  3. Modifications, alterations, and customizations will void your firearm’s warranty 9.5 times out of 10. Please take that into consideration before attempting any at-home gunsmithing.
  4. If you are unsure about proper safety practices, disassembly procedures, or warranty standards, stop, put down the tools, and consult a competent gunsmith.

Brief Overview: Delta Series Compact Multi-Tool

Recently I had taken apart a Smith & Wesson Sport II AR15 in a short burst of disassembly articles. While doing this, I made it a point to attempt to utilize the Wheeler AR15 related tools specifically. One such tool used more than the one time shown on camera was the Wheeler Delta Series Compact Multi-Tool. The picture I am referring to is shown below.

This simple yet smart setup of common tools is extremely handy. It comes in a nice button-locked case and is fairly compact. The multi-tool itself is about the size of a tin of mints. The multi-tool has 15 different tools attached to the steel body. Each tool is a very common and useful tool for most AR15 related work. Very efficiently set up too!

Compact Multi-Tool

Besides the presence of a common screwdriver bit, the compact multi-tool is equipped with the likes of a muzzle device wrench which came in handy during disassembly. That as well as a pivot/takedown pin punch for stubborn new and tight pins. The front sight tool is a pretty cool addition although I have rarely ever needed to adjust a front sight post. The scraper tools are a neat additi0on as well but once again I have personally never had much use for those kinds of things but what else should be on it? I was never left feeling like it was missing anything that could be attached.

Specifications and Highlights: Delta Series Compact Multi-Tool

The Wheeler Compact Multi-Tool is actuated like most multi-tools. The desired tools are simply flipped out from their recesses. The castle nut wrench portion is the solid and almost hidden backer that creates one solid side. Each specific tool attached are listed below:

  • Fits Compact Into Nylon Belt Sheath (Included)
  • Multi-Tool Design To Perform Many Different Functions in the Field
  • Satin-Finish, Stainless Steel Construction
  • Ar Carbon Multi-Scraper Tool
  • 5/64″ Hex, 7/64″ Hex, 1/8″ Hex
  • Pivot and Takedown Punch
  • #2 Phillips
  • Bolt Waist Scraper, Interior Bcg Scraper
  • T10 Torx, T15 Torx, T20 Torx
  • A2 Front Sight Tool
  • 3/16″ Flat
  • 3/4″ Wrench, 1/2″ Wrench and a Castle Nut Wrench

With an MSRP of $41.99, the Wheeler Compact Multi-Tool is great in my humble opinion. It is compact as the name implies and as someone who works on and with firearms for a living, I carry around a small pack of tools and this multi-tool does not just add some redundancy to the pack but also frees up some space and offers some new smaller versions of tools I would previously have had in there such as a giant AR15 wrench.

There is no longer a need for a tool box at the range when you have the Wheeler Delta Series Compact Multi-Tool. With a satin finish and stainless steel construction, this tool is not only handy, but durable. The multi-tool design can be used to perform many different functions in the field. When you need to make adjustments, or scrape some carbon build-up, simply reach down and grab this tool out of the included nylon belt sheath and go to work. After you are finished, snap the tool back in and continue shooting.

Closing Thoughts: Delta Series Compact Multi-Tool

All in all, I think the Wheeler Delta Series Compact Multi-Tool has staying power. The only shortcoming of this multi-tool is in its name … it is compact. This means if you need some leverage on that castle nut or muzzle device it may not be enough. I did notice some minor flex when putting this tool under stress but not to the point where it felt like it would catastrophically fail. I really like this tool and think it is a valid and creative addition to anyone’s bench!

Note: As of writing this, I saw that Wheeler currently is offering a majority of the tools and items on their site up to 40 % off discounts. If you have seen a tool like the multi-tool ($31 right now) make sure to take a look!

As always, thank you for reading TFB! Be safe out there, have fun while shooting, and we will see you next time for the TFB Armorer’s Bench brought to you by Wheeler, Tipton, Caldwell, and Frankford Arsenal!
