The Modern Hi-Power, the EAA/Girsan MC P35 Match
It’s certainly the Year of the Hi-Power. First, the Springfield SA-35, then FN reintroduced a redesigned version of the iconic pistol, and now EAA/Girsan is showing off their modernized Hi-Power design, with… most… of the bells and whistles consumers have been asking for. EAA has been importing the MC P35 since November of 2021, but at SHOT they’ve debuted the MC P35 Match. A Hi-Power that finally has (most) of the features people ask for in a modern handgun.
What features am I talking about? Little minor things, like an extended beavertail to prevent slide and hammer bite experienced by some users.
Or an integrated 1913 picatinny rail. Yes, a Hi-Power with a rail, thus officially bringing the Hi-Power’s design all the way up to 1995.
In the immortal words of Billy Mays, but wait! There’s more! Like a beveled and flared magwell for faster reloads.
Upgraded target sights including a fiber optic front sight and a flat-face trigger complete the package.
It’s almost everything a modern shooter could ask for. The only feature it’s really missing is an optics cut, some thing the new FN Hi-Power doesn’t have yet either, and I can forgive EAA/Girsan for not including one today, since according to the booth rep one is coming. Unlike the new FN offering the internals are all completely compatible with any other standard Hi-Power parts, including grips, triggers, hammers, and more.
If the MC P35 is reliable and well-made, then I definitely see this competing with the Springfield and FN Hi-Powers. If it’s not reliable and well-made, then no matter what features it has, it’s going to bomb. My fingers are definitely crossed.
