Back in 2019, I had a unique opportunity to visit the SIG Sauer Electro-Optics facility in Woodburn, Oregon where the talented team stationed there were working hard on SIG’s next quality optic – the ROMEO2. The ROMEO2 Red Dot Sight is a unique optic that incorporates a removable shroud that completely seals off the emitter and internals of the optic from the elements and adds an additional layer of protection from bumps and drops. SIG Sauer is now happy to announce that the ROMEO2 MIL-SPEC red dot sight is finally shipping. The announcement was made today (February 15th) via the SIG Sauer Instagram page.

SIG Sauer Electro-Optics Now Shipping the ROMEO2 MIL-SPEC RDS
SIG SAUER is proud to announce the long awaited ROMEO2 red dot optic is now shipping! The ROMEO2 has been designed and built for the most rugged and adverse conditions featuring a modular shroud system to provide multiple layers of protection. The ROMEO2 is available in a 3 MOA or 6 MOA red dot with 15 brightness settings to ensure rapid target engagement. The sight features a high-efficiency, point source LED emitter and molded aspheric glass lens, utilizing a high-performance red notch reflector coating for excellent brightness and light transmittance with zero distrotion. The 7050 alluminum housing and ruggedized steel srouds protect the ROMEO2 from extreme ipacts and drops. The ROMEO2 maintains 25,000 hours of battery life, comes with MOTAC to automatically power the optic on and off, and is compatible with all SIG pistols with a PRO or R2 footprint.
During my trip out of the SIG Sauer Electro-Optics facility, I was able to get a good look at the work the team was putting into the ROMEO2 which included some pretty heavy-duty drop tests to ensure the steel shroud was doing its job of protecting the optic against high impacts. Range performance was good as well with the shroud providing a good compromise of added bulk to added protection.
Buyers can expect to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $600 street price for the ROMEO2 which will first be released with 6 MOA and 3 MOA dot options. This new optic may be a great option for those who would like the ability to add and remove the protective shroud when needed rather than field two different optics. What are your thoughts on the SIG ROMEO 2? Will you guys be picking one up? Let us know down in the comments.
