BONE-DRI Dual Rifle Bag has all the features you’re used to in a double rifle case with the addition of their patented Absorbits moisture-removal material. A water-repelling 800D Nylon exterior prevents moisture from getting in and Absorbits material traps any moisture that may have slipped inside. Curious to see how well this bag worked, I asked for a review copy to drag through the snow for this TFB review.

Before we dive headfirst into all the bag’s features, here’s the product description of the Dual Rifle Case from Bone-Dri.

On the front of the case, there are three large pouches (the center pouch is just slightly larger with an additional buckle) for transporting items you’ll need quick access to. Later in the review, I found the center pocket was just wide enough for most electronic earmuffs, making it very useful on the go.

Roughly five AR-pattern magazines will fit in these pockets, and you can squeeze in an additional 2 to 3 pistol magazines if needed. An added layer of water-resistant nylon lines these outside pockets so your ammo stays nice and dry.

Two admin pockets are located behind a tasteful amount of MOLLE webbing. These allow for easy storage of IDs, spare boxed ammo, or range stacks.

Unzip the first compartment behind the ammo pouches to expose a set of D-Ring equipped pistol storage pockets. They’ll fit pretty much any large frame handgun including my HK Mark 23 that slid in easily with room underneath for a couple spare magazines.

In addition, there’s a slim waterproof lined pocket opposite the pistol pouches that’s great for storing thinner items like targets.

The main compartment features a removable padded center divider and nylon straps for the secure transport of multiple rifles. Its 46″ length was long enough to accommodate an M16A4, but still small enough to secure pistols or SBRs like this Daniel Defense MK18.

Soft double rifle cases have a tendency to collapse on themselves when you zip them up. So this heavy-duty divider around the outside of the bag was a very welcome addition

Last but not least are these beefed-up muzzle/stock pouches at each end of the case. With suppressors becoming more a more popular, it’s nice having the added insulation in place for when your silencer is still a little warm but it’s time to head home.

I thought of multiple ways to test the moisture removal technology. Rather than go overly scientific, I took a more real-world approach and dropped my MK18 in a snowbank.

With half the rifle (and my optic’s objective lens) now covered in snow, I inserted the rifle back inside the case. It’d sit in the case overnight and I’d see if the gun was actually bone dry the following morning.

With moisture now in the case, I figured now was as good a time as any to see how well the bag kept moisture out. So after an hour’s drive home in the back of my truck, I decided I’d just toss the whole bag into the snow for good measure.

Did I mention this bag has incredibly comfy backpack straps and a pull handle? Well, it does. Making it very useful for packing in around, and dragging it in and out of the snow.

I hauled the snow-covered bag inside and let it sit overnight in my mudroom while the Absorbits moisture removal technology worked its magic.

Twelve hours later I unzipped the bag to find a totally dry (sling and all) Daniel Defense MK18. The inside walls of the bag were slightly swollen with the trapped moisture inside.

Much to my amazement, the only evidence of a once snow-caked MK18 were a few water spots on the objective lens of the Vortex AMG. BONE-DRI recommends leaving the case in direct sunlight or applying light heat (a blow-dryer works well) in order to re-charge the case. Sure enough, after a day in the sun, the case walls thinned back out and the case was as good as new.
The Verdict

Coming in with an MSRP of $249.99, the BONE-DRI Dual Rifle Case is an incredible bang for your buck. I own a small fleet of double rifle cases and would have a hard time trading any one of them for this one. Right now these cases only come in black, but they do come in a few other sizes and shapes for tools and electronics.
While this current BONE-DRI case may not come in your favorite Multicam flavor, it does do a fantastic job of keeping your firearms dry. For those who shoot in any condition or live in a humid climate, I’d seriously consider picking one of these up to protect your firearms from the elements.
